Season 1 Episode 1: Welcome to Inglês Nu e Cru Rádio!
Hey guys and welcome to the first episode of the Inglês Nu e Cru podcast!
In this episode, I am going to give an introduction to what this podcast is all about, our philosophy about learning English, and some tips to start improving your English today. I hope you like it.
First, a little about me.
My name is Foster. F-O-S-T-E-R. Nome esquisito. Eu sei.
I'm was born and raised in the US, but have spent much of my adult life traveling the world. Professionally, I'm an English teacher and a legal and financial translator. But I also like to consider myself a lifelong learner, linguist, musician, and traveler. So why should you listen to what I have to say?
Well, after years of teaching English to Brazilians everyday, I think I have learned some important things.
First and foremost, almost all of my Brazilian students commit the same mistakes when learning English. Let me explain.
The first big mistake is the traditional approach to learning English in Brazil.
Most Brazilians learn English more or less with this approach.
- You begin with learning how to read and write.
- Next come grammar theories, you know, the book is on the table, etc.
- Finally, you try to translate this knowledge into conversation.
Through my experience, most Brazilians "know" a good bit of English. They can read and write pretty well, but when it comes to actually speaking and listening to native speakers they struggle to express themselves and lose confidence.
After seeing so many students spend years studying in school, wasting thousands of dollars on private English courses, and even more time using applications, watching YouTube videos, etc., I decided there has to be a better way.
That is why I created Inglês Nu e Cru, a new kind of English help you learn faster, understand more, and speak with an impressive accent. Our philosophy is the complete opposite of the traditional approach. We focus on the sounds of English, unconventional strategies to keep you motivated and make sure that you can converse with native speakers as soon as possible.
In the next episode, I will explain our language learning philosophy in more detail.
But for now, a little more about this podcast. Many of my students lack a daily routine for studying English, which is fundamental to speak fluently. So, we created a daily show that you can listen to whenever you want, wherever you want.
Each day we will cover a specific topic to dramatically improve your English. We release an episode in Portuguese so you are familiar with the content and the concepts, and the following day we release the same episode in English, so you can really train and perfect the fundamentals of successful English learning.
Some days we will talk about strategies--like improving vocabulary, overcoming shame and anxiety, and how to connect with native speakers. Other episodes we will discuss difficult sounds in English, useful phrases, slang, phrasal verbs, etc. In short, we will cover a little bit of everything so you receive a truly comprehensive English experience.
Most importantly, we hope this podcast is fun and helps you stay motivated.
